All the above have now been released and are available at Rarewares. The additions, bug fixes, etc., have all been enumerated in recent threads concerning each of them. Many thanks are due to those patient individuals who took the time to test and report their results. |

A new trojan horse malware is being reported in the wild that infects MP3, WMA and WMV files. It secretly converts MP3 files to the WMA format while keeping the MP3 file extension and adding a special WMA tag that asks the user to install a supposedly missing audio codec. When the user downloads and installs the fake missing codec, the trojan horse sets a registry key that disables the "missing codec" popup, making it seem as if the installation was successful. Meanwhile, it's silently infecting all those media files it can find on that PC, including converting all MP3s to WMA and adding that special tag. Windows Media Player does not mind the wrong extension and plays them back normally.

Changes from 1.0.0b:- Bitdepth reduction is now channel independent;
- Input from STDIN implemented;
- Output to STDOUT implemented;
- New quality synonyms --insane, --extreme, --standard and --portable introduced;
- Logfile implemented;
- Noise shaping implemented;
- WAVE_FORMAT_EXTENSIBLE file compatibility fixed.

After 2 years of development and 8 beta versions LAME 3.98 has been released. Highlights from changelog:- LAME now has its own psy model, a derivation from NSPSY
- LAME now accepts a floating point value in the range [0,...,10[ as VBR quality setting, like -V5.678
- Ability to set user-defined ID3v2.3 frame and include albumArt in ID3v2.3 tag
- The newer VBR code is now LAME's default VBR routine
